Plunge in to the icy Seattle waters, just like this polar bear!
Seattle Parks & Recreation is hosting its 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge on at noon on Wednesday, January 1 at Matthew's Beach Park (Entrance is at the corner of NE 93rd St and Sand Point Way NE).

Taking the chilly dip into Lake Washington will earn you the official 2014 Polar Bear Plunge Patch, which I like to call the "cold badge o' courage."  Wear a swimsuit and a whimsical costume, and get ready for a frenzied swim!

If you want to make it a multisport event, try the resolution 5K and Polar Bear Dive at Magnuson Park's boat ramp, hosted by Club Northwest. You can run the 3.1 miles and stay dry, or dip in the water and skip the run.

Events of this kind are happening throughout the Puget Sound region, including Lacey, Tacoma, and Renton. OutdoorsNW list points you in the right chilly lake direction. So get your beach gear ready January 1 and enjoy the New Year in a new way!
