Adding color to your apartment home is a fun way to dress up those plain white walls. As you may have experienced, many apartment communities/landlords don’t allow residents to paint. So what do you do?

Here are three easy ways to add color to your apartment without having to paint:

  • Accent rugs: Rugs are a great way to add a color. Not only are there a variety of different colors to pick from, but many rugs feature unique patterns and designs to add a little spice to your decor. Rugs are also a great way to define and separate space, especially in an open layout.
  • Curtains: Dress up your windows with a little color. Place the curtain rod high above the window (almost near the very top where the ceiling and wall meet) to add a dramatic feel. Try using a unique textile like silk or a sheer fabric to creative visual texture.
  • Wall art: You don’t have to break the bank to get great wall art. Purchase a large canvas and paint it yourself! Try creating an ombre effect by painting dark to light, or simply use stripes or a pattern.

A fourth option: BRE’s White to Wow program

At BRE, residents can have painted walls! Pick one of our 12 designer accent wall colors and we’ll paint the wall for you. The best part is that you don’t have to worry about repainting it back yourself when you move out. If you’re already a BRE resident, check with your leasing office for more details.
